SHOWING
Because the AKC breed standard is currently written for fawn, pied, cream and brindle only, we show registries such as ABKC and BRC; and will be starting our AKC show journey with our standard-only kennel soon. Blue is indeed a naturally occuring color in the French Bulldog, however breeding JUST for color (with the advent of DNA color panels) is what has given "fad color breeders" (in my opinion) a bad rap. Sacrificing breed type (and health) over color breedings has to stop... along with only breeding for blue ribbons without taking into account the structural integrity of a dog. I love ALL colors of Frenchies, but what I truly strive for is a well rounded animal, not just the color of it. Our current breed standard keeps us out of the AKC show arena, however we hope to change the stigma around our "fad color dogs" by continuing to put health and correct structure over politics. Showing is a great way to get feedback from judges and community on the strengths, and weaknesses, of our breeding dogs. Plus, it's a fantastic sport to be a part of. Kennel blindness is indeed a weakness for many breeders, and showing can be the antidote.
